Habanova Pilates
Habanova Pilates is uniquely designed to expand the knowledge of new and existing Pilates
and movement professionals.
Dr. Habanova, a Chiropractic Physician has written and developed the Habanova Pilates workshops
and comprehensive teacher training program. With her extensive education and years of experience
working with patients and pilates clients in rehabilitation and fitness/sports settings, Dr. Habanova
understands what it takes to be a successful movement professional. She has incorporated her knowledge
from Chiropractic and Sports Medicine to the Pilates Method by enhancing contemporary and classical
Pilates teachings. The comprehensive program and workshops offer an unique and in-depth approach to
understanding the human body, the pilates repertoire, and how to develop Pilates programs that are
safe and effective for a diverse group of individuals.
The curriculum encompasses college level academic and practical knowledge in anatomy, kinesiology
and biomechanics with extensive training on the Pilates equipment. The comprehensive program
includes case presentations, personal study and an internship to further deepen your understanding
of the Pilates Method.

Method. We have a reputation for creating highly trained and well rounded instructors who are currently
working in Chiropractic offices, Physical Therapy clinics, rehabilitation centers, country clubs and

The Florida Physical Therapy Association department
of CEC has granted 27 CEC for the Habanova Pilates™ comprehensive program. PT and other licensed professionals
should contact their association to determine the number of CECs given for the individual workshops and the
comprehensive program.
The Habanova Pilates Workshops
If you are currently certified in Pilates and want to take your training to another level, or if you are
in the health and fitness field and want to incorporate Pilates into your work, these workshops are a great
way to enhance your knowledge and skills.
It is recommended that all individuals have some familiarity with the teachings of Joseph Pilates and have
taken at least 5 private pilates equipment sessions prior to attending the workshop.
The Schedule
Each Pilates Module can be taken individually either as a workshop for those interested in expanding
their knowledge or as part of the comprehensive program leading to Pilates certification. Priority is
given to those enrolled in the comprehensive program.
The modules are either half day (4 hours) or full day (8 hours) in length and are taught twice a year.
The modules can be taken in any order although it is recommended to start with Module 1 and complete the
modules in succession if enrolling in the comprehensive program.
Half day modules are taught either from 8am - noon (AM) or are 1pm- 5pm (PM). Full day modules are taught
from 8am to 5pm (FD) with a 1 hour lunch break from noon to 1pm.

The Modules
Each Pilates Module can be taken individually either as a workshop for those interested
in expanding their knowledge or as part of the comprehensive program leading to Pilates
certification.
Module 1: Anatomy & Physiology
In order to fully understand the benefits of Pilates and to be able to work with clients
safely and effectively, a review of the anatomy of the human body is needed. Discussion
will include learning the various muscles in the body that are used during pilates movements,
joints and their articulations, planes of motion, anatomical landmarks, effects of biomechanical
forces, and the nervous system.
Module 2: Pilates Fundamentals
A solid working knowledge of the Pilates Fundamentals is key to being a successful Pilates
movement practitioner. The history of Pilates, the Habanova Pilates™ Method and the Pre-Pilates
Concepts are discussed. Time is given to practice among participants.
Module 3: Reformer 1 - basic
The basic reformer repertoire is discussed and then taught. Emphasis is placed on understanding
the biomechanics of the movement, client set up and modifications, effective cueing and working
safety with the client and with the equipment. Time is given to practice among participants.
Module 4: Reformer - Intermediate & Advance
The intermediate and advance level reformer repertoire is discussed and then taught. Emphasis is
placed on understanding the biomechanics of the movement, client set up, modifications, progressions
and regressions, effective cueing and working safety with the client and with the equipment. Time is
given to practice among participants.
Module 5: Cadillac/Trapeze Table

Module 7: Barrel
The basic, intermediate and advance level barrel repertoire is discussed and then taught. Emphasis
is placed on understanding the biomechanics of the movement, client set up, modifications, progressions
and regressions, effective cueing and working safety with the client and with the equipment. Time is
given to practice among participants.
Module 8: Mat 1 - Basic
The basic level mat repertoire is discussed and then taught. Emphasis is placed on understanding the
biomechanics of the movement, client set up, modifications, effective cueing and working safety with
the client. Time is given to practice among participants.
Module 9: Mat 2 - Intermediate & Advance
The intermediate and advance level mat repertoire is discussed and then taught. Emphasis is placed
on understanding the biomechanics of the movement, client set up, modifications, progressions and
regressions, effective cueing and working safety with the client. Time is given to practice among
participants.
Module 10: Upper Quadrant Assessment
Evaluation of the upper quadrant is demonstrated and then taught. The evaluation includes conducting
a client health history and fitness screen, a static postural assessment, functional movement assessment,

This module explores the therapeutic benefits of the Pilates Method. The Pilates repertoire is dissected
to gain a deeper understanding of the therapeutic principles that are occurring during the Pilates
movement, how the various soft tissues respond, and to gain a greater appreciation of the powerful movement
environment Pilates equipment creates . This module is designed for those who have a familiarity with the
pilates equipment repertoire.
Module 13: Program Design Protocols
This module presents various case studies illustrating the typical clients that seek out Pilates. Focus
is placed on understanding the assessment findings, developing critical thinking skills and effectively
implementing a pilates program to meet the clients’ needs. This module is designed for individuals who
are familiar with the pilates equipment repertoire.

The Habanova Pilates Comprehensive Program
If you are interested in becoming a certified Habanova Pilates™ instructor, then the comprehensive
program will prepare you for an exciting and fulfilling career. The curriculum encompasses college
level academic and practical knowledge in anatomy, kinesiology and biomechanics with extensive training
on the Pilates equipment. The comprehensive program includes case presentations, personal study and an
internship to further deepen your understanding of the Pilates Method.

Method. We have a reputation for creating highly trained and well rounded instructors who are currently

The comprehensive program consists of:
1) Academic Modules (72hrs)
2) Self Study (~ 50hrs)
3) Practical Work (~100hrs)
4) Observation Hours (~50 hrs)
5) Internship Teaching (~100 hrs)
*these hours are only a recommendation and may be adjusted based on the students previous experience
and training.
1) Academic Modules - the curriculum is taught in a modular format consisting of 13 modules which are
composed of lectures, hands on learning, case histories and presentations totaling 72 hours. The modules
are divided into 3 weekends taught once a month and can be completed within 3 months. Although it is
recommended to start with Module 1 and complete the modules in succession, the modules can be taken in
any order as long as all modules are completed within one year of enrollment into the comprehensive program.
Weekend 1 (Modules 1-4) Weekend 2 (Modules 5-9) Weekend 3 (Modules 10-13)
2) Self Study - up to 50 hours * - reading of required materials, working on case histories and homework
assignments done on your own time.
3) Practical Work - up to 100 hours*- it is highly recommended to spend as much time on the equipment as
possible by either taking private sessions from host and affiliate studio instructors (private sessions
are offered at a student rate) and/or spend time on the equipment by yourself (host and affiliate studios
may or may not have open studio time and a studio fee may apply). At least 20 private sessions must be done
at host studio.
4) Observation Hours - up to 50 hours* at the host location or affiliate studio. These hours help you
develop your eye and your verbal and manual cueing skills.
5) Internship Teaching - up to 100 hours* at the host location or affiliate studio. These hours begin when
an intern is ready to work with a client from health history/intake to program design and implementation.
Prerequisites
It is recommended that all individuals have some familiarity with the teachings of Joseph Pilates and
have taken at least 10 private pilates equipment sessions prior to enrolling in the program.
Graduation Requirements
The comprehensive program takes 6 months to a year to complete and consists of about 375 hours. In order
to be eligible to take the written and practical examination all hours must be completed within one year
of initial enrollment, otherwise the comprehensive program will need to be retaken.
Certification Requirements
To become a certified Habanova Pilates™ instructor a pass of 80% on both written and practical examination
is required. If you do not pass the first time, Dr. Habanova will discuss with you the areas you need to
focus on and you will be permitted to re-take the examination one more time when the next examination is
given.
